Little did I know, Landry Mark Carter would make his entrance 6 weeks early on November 5, 2011 at 3:12 am. But before we get to that...

We had our maternity pictures done by a friend on Saturday, October 29. We went up to Oak Glen to take pictures. These are a few of them. We are SO glad we went and did these, otherwise we would have missed the opportunity!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 218px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DkROidWD7q0/TsK4CZXPkZI/AAAAAAAAAHc/xRvmIUT1sDk/s320/B%2526W.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5675300831747871122" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tum_SdlHmmE/TsK5JIsDTRI/AAAAAAAAAIY/e9ClK9u7SRo/s320/Elephant%2BPE.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5675302047042456850" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 259px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SBlDtD7qxC4/TsK5IsoA6_I/AAAAAAAAAIM/CZkp03-LPL0/s320/DSC06642.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5675302039509330930" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 195px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-amwHGLsjwec/TsK5IdQYGbI/AAAAAAAAAIA/u720bhZs7Io/s320/DSC06554.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5675302035383654834" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yns1-FA5R44/TsK5H6UcbSI/AAAAAAAAAH0/UYCIoblzMIM/s320/Baby%2BShoe%2BPE.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5675302026005474594" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-A08LwE5rQ9o/TsK5Hum9IGI/AAAAAAAAAHo/ZWFlDFZkHuE/s320/DSC06528.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5675302022861889634" />

My coworkers threw me a small baby shower on Tuesday, November 1. Landry got some really cute clothes, some diapers, and all kinds of goodies. It was VERY thoughtful and sweet and I had a great time. Here's the stash...

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Fddvgggx1Iw/TsF_DKlMlAI/AAAAAAAAAHE/YRzrNn4ce1A/s320/CIMG4816.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5674956697820238850" />

We had been debating about what we wanted to use for Landry's coming home outfit for a while. Since he was due a week before Christmas we decided on a little reindeer outfit. It arrived on Wednesday, November 2nd. Little did we know, this would be the last belly pictures.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oLFbQGJhN3s/TsK0pfjrMOI/AAAAAAAAAHQ/-aygaVnkujA/s320/CIMG4817.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5675297105379012834" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-H_sUTQJBoss/TsK6TZy2abI/AAAAAAAAAIk/qW2IE0RQoSk/s320/CIMG4819.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5675303322944694706" />

Now we're at the big day. On Thursday, November 3rd, I had my regular 33 week check up. I had had some minor cramping off and on for the previous few days, so I casually mentioned it to my Dr. She went ahead and checked to see if I was dilated at all and I was 2 cm dilated and starting to thin. She told me she wanted me to go to Labor and Delivery and wrote an off-work order for the remainder of my pregnancy. I, surprisingly, held it together even though inside I was panicking. I immediately called Paul and he started looking for someone to come relieve him at the branch in Rancho so he could meet me at the hospital. At this point, we were assuming I would be placed on bedrest in an effort to keep Landry inside until at least week 36.

I also called my work, and my Mom. I drove myself to the hospital, checked in, and they hooked me up to monitors. It turned out the cramping I was feeling were contractions. By the time I got to the hospital, they were coming 3-4 minutes apart. That's when I started getting nervous. They hooked me up to an IV and started giving me meds to slow down labor. They also gave me a steroid shot which would help Landry's lungs mature, in the event that he came pre-term. The steroid shot made me REALLY shaky. So shaky that I could not control my body's shaking and shivering. Right after they gave me the steroid shot, Paul and my parents arrived at the hospital. They moved me to a labor room and then we waited. And waited. They continued monitoring me and all signs pointed to a discharge the next day and being placed on STRICT bedrest. They did an ultrasound of Landry to make sure everything was ok with him. They said he was measuring at 35-36 weeks gestation and estimated that he weighed about 5 lbs 13 oz. At that point, Paul and I knew he would be here before Christmas for sure, probably even before December. We still didn't expect him to come as early as he did, though.

We went to sleep that night expecting to be sent home around 11 AM on Friday November 4th. We were still tentatively planning on my baby shower happening on November 5, with me sitting on the couch and letting Nicole (Paul's cousin) open gifts for me. Paul slept at the hospital with me. My contractions were really sporadic and Landry's heartrate was good and he was active, but obviously sitting lower.

The next morning a perinatalogist came in and talked to us about the ultrasound. After having a conversation with me about how great the Kindle is, he very calmly and matter-of-factly informed us that there were "infarctions" on my placenta. Basically, there were spots on the placenta that were dying. Apparently, this happens as the placenta gets closer to 39 weeks gestation. Since my placenta was already doing this, the doctor decided it was less risky to induce labor and get Landry out rather than leave him in and hope we could get him to 36 weeks gestational age. If we had not taken him out, the doctor said he could have been a still-birth. That's when I started really freaking out. But Paul was there and we both knew that God was in control of the situation.

We called my parents, and Paul's cousin Nicole to let them know he was going to be born sometime Friday or possibly Saturday. Obviously, the shower was also cancelled. They started me on Pitocin to induce labor, gave me Magnesium to help with Landry's neurodevelopment, and another shot of the steroids to speed up his lung maturity. I also asked for an epidural as the contractions started getting a little more intense and was given an epidural sometime in the afternoon. Getting the epidural was a little traumatic, but not too terrible. Apparently, I have a very tight ligament in my lower back where they needed to put the epidural. But I survived. After a lot of waiting and not very much pain at all, I was in active labor (4 cm dilated) by 9:06 pm on Friday night. At that point, it became pretty obvious that Landry would not be joining us until Saturday morning sometime. By this time, my parents, and Paul's cousin Nicole and Aunt Laverne were at the hospital waiting. Eventually, the epidural started to wear off and I was really feeling the contractions, which were getting closer together. I was still only about 6 cm dilated. I asked for a top off of the epidural, they gave it to me, and the contractions just kept coming. Eventually, I asked them to check me again and I was complete, meaning it was time to push. They took me to a delivery room and got the NICU team prepared. All told, I pushed for about an hour. The pushing wasn't as terrible as I had expected (thankfully), and my recovery has been really pretty speedy.

Landry Mark Carter was born at 3:12 AM on November 5, 2011. He weighed 5 lbs 12 oz and was 19.5 inches long. He's a little string bean! He spent 8 days in the NICU due to some breathing troubles in the beginning, learning how to tolerate feedings and eat on his own, and a little bit of jaundice. But he is home now and we are loving on our little boy! Here are a bunch of pictures!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VFQXXUj1jk0/TsLhpuGZdyI/AAAAAAAAAI8/mcbPD3biw64/s320/CIMG4996.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5675346587305998114" />
Landry all bundled up. But I am happy to be home!

All told, Landry's birth was quite the emotional rollercoaster. We were overjoyed to welcome our precious son, but very scared about having him in the NICU. I had to leave the hospital without my baby and I would never wish that feeling on anyone. Paul and I spent many nights crying and praying together. Our families were and are so supportive of us through this whole experience, and the love and support we have felt from our friends and even people we hardly know has been indescribable. We are so grateful for all of the love and prayers that Landry has received. He is truly a blessed little boy, and a blessing to our family!JessChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12752777492655598462noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-792000568572227157.post-1102083514951845162011-10-21T17:53:00.001-07:002011-10-21T18:48:36.724-07:00It's Getting Closer!We are getting closer and closer to the big day! Paul and I are very excited and anxious to meet our little guy!

I am feeling pretty good! It's starting to get more difficult to move around with my belly always in the way, but overall I'm feeling pretty good. My Dr. told me today that the last two months are usually pretty terrible. I didn't find that very encouraging...

We got his crib and put it together late last month! It's a convertible crib so it will convert to a toddler bed when he's bigger, a day bed when he's even bigger, and eventually a full size bed. We are very happy with it and it was even easy for Paul to put together! Here is the room as it looks right now!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lv-s5-HMFCQ/TqIVjlfg0EI/AAAAAAAAAFM/WUAMDdsTxfE/s320/CIMG4787.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5666114982289395778" />

This is a close up of the crib! My Mom and Dad are staining a dresser in the same color and we will use that with a changing pad and railing for a changing table right next to his crib.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aTiPylXVsKM/TqIVj7PWeNI/AAAAAAAAAFY/DmszKO5yM1I/s320/CIMG4785.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5666114988127189202" />

We got to have a 4D ultrasound done on October 1st, where we got to watch Landry on a big giant screen. He was being a little shy and hiding behind the placenta, but we managed to wake him up enough to get some decent shots of his face. It was really fun to have a lot of our family there to see him.

There he is! That big cushiony looking thing on the right is the placenta, apparently. My Mom thinks he looks like me! He definitely appears to have my nose...

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MXqDJlrt1-o/TqIYS6n8lLI/AAAAAAAAAFk/fPuVvy55U9I/s320/CIMG4946.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5666117994439021746" />

This is his, "I'm trying to sleep!" face...

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NnI3WXXj390/TqIYS7Oek8I/AAAAAAAAAFw/2DLAvmjhsDQ/s320/CIMG4950.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5666117994600633282" />

That's his little arm up by his cheek!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HcmJvcXRXCk/TqIYTZ_oUPI/AAAAAAAAAF8/tyoaNyM7_K8/s320/CIMG4951.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5666118002859856114" />

This is our family that came to see Landry! It's already the third trimester! Just barely, yes, but still! In just about 3 months, Landry will be here!

Landry is a pretty active little boy. He kicks and squirms a lot throughout the day, but he's most active at nighttime when Mommy is trying to sleep. :/ That's ok though, the squirming is so neat and it's so sweet when Paul comes and touches my belly and talks to Landry. He especially likes to talk to our boy about the Cowboys, but he also reads Chronicles of Narnia and recites Scriptures to him. :) Landry is lucky to have such a sweet Daddy already!

We have been accumulating more baby things. Landry's Uncle Matt and Aunt Nicole passed down a bunch of things from their boys, and we have started making the baby's room look like a baby's room! Paul even put a little bit of Cowboy flair on the wall, just to make sure Landry is well aware of the Dallas Cowboys. By the end of this week, Landry will have a crib to sleep in!

My doctor's appointments are still going well. Landry and I are both measuring right on track and everything is progressing normally! We are very thankful for that!

The baby bump keeps on growing! Even though people still tell me I'm pretty small, I'm feeling more and more pregnant everyday, it seems. But overall, I'm feeling really good and am getting really excited to meet our son!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RQxhGVk4W88/Tna6HZqArTI/AAAAAAAAAFE/4DygX1XepLU/s320/CIMG4904.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5653911018519178546" />
27 weeks and 1 day pregnant!JessChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12752777492655598462noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-792000568572227157.post-25284761404177657012011-08-21T22:30:00.000-07:002011-08-21T23:47:23.306-07:00All things Landry
Landry is growing just fine, and so is Mommy! We ended up having to have a repeat ultrasound of Landry's spine since he was a little bit of a wiggle worm the first time around. But he cooperated the second time and the Dr. says baby Landry looks fine and dandy! We are praising God for a healthy little man growing in there and praying for continued health and safety for all of us.

After we found out we were having a boy, I started right to work on a project I had wanted to do for the baby's room. I made a photoboard using a bulletin board, some cute fabric, and wooden letters that I painted for his name. I was pretty happy with the finished product!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-e4BqaiBc40w/TlHvvy4obpI/AAAAAAAAADc/7dgBng5cEeo/s320/CIMG4751.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5643555412464135826" />
Mommy hard at work on Landry's photo board. Daddy helped with creative.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X0pK8YbXn9k/TlHxIg0TzHI/AAAAAAAAADk/6Crzv7NMNOI/s320/CIMG4755.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5643556936622525554" />
The finished product! We are doing Landry's room in a Dr. Seuss theme and the colors on the fabric/letters are complimentary to the bedding set we would like to get.

My small group girls had a little cake for Baby Landry after we found out the gender! It was so sweet and very yummy too!

Paul and I went to Philadelphia and New York last month. I was very excited to go to NYC since that has been on my bucket list. I am happy to say that it has been crossed off and I'm ok with that. It was very hot and very crowded, but it was really fun! We even got to see a Broadway show. Landry started moving a lot during that week and it was so neat to feel him move, especially during "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!"
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MK1NhaTEru0/TlH4whbdsCI/AAAAAAAAAEs/bx41d9jKC6c/s320/CIMG4795.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5643565320562913314" />
We saw Mary Poppins at the New Amsterdam theater in NYC. It was the best stage production I have ever seen. I cried it was so good.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0Fc9bf6H_m0/TlH5lcPSZqI/AAAAAAAAAE0/eEG6TIYaMyY/s320/CIMG4830.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5643566229702731426" />
Philadelphia had lots of interesting sites too! I walked up the steps at the Philadelphia Art Museum and stood in Rocky's footsteps! I felt very epic.

We have slowly started accumulating baby things. His room is slowly starting to look like a baby will be living there soon!

We found a great deal on a used travel system online! We were really excited to find such a good deal and are very happy with our purchase. Now Landry will travel in style!

Daddy picked out the diaper bag. He will also be carrying the diaper bag. :D

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_PSGw_QY4GQ/TlH25hmuZiI/AAAAAAAAAEc/ZPjPHFw67rY/s320/CIMG4781.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5643563276205712930" />

A fun storage ottoman/footstool. Not sure what we'll put in it, but it is going to be really useful I'm sure! Landry's Uncle JW repainted my rocking chair that I had in my bedroom at my parent's house before he moved and we will be using that in Landry's room. Such a good Uncle!

And now...belly pictures!

I had taken the day off from work, because I had to consume a large amount of water and I figured I would be so absent-minded and excited that working would be the last thing on my mind. I was right. I had to find things to keep myself busy until Paul came home to pick me up and take me to the appointment. We were lucky enough to have my Mom and Dad join us for the appointment.

We got there with plenty of time to spare and I got checked in. They sent me back to wait, and said that after all of the pictures were done for the Doctor, my family could come back and see the baby. So I went off by myself. And waited. And waited. Luckily, they called me in about 10 minutes before my appointment time and got started.

As I laid there while the ultrasound technician took all the pictures, the song "Bittersweet Symphony" came on the radio. I walked down the aisle to this song in our wedding! I thought that was a very good sign, and an awesome coincidence. :) The tech was very nice, but she couldn't tell me anything. She was reassuring though and told me that if anything was a problem, we would know about it today. Apparently, the little one was cooperative because in just a few minutes she said, "ok, you can go empty your bladder if you want" (I wanted) "and go get your family for the fun part."

We all returned in again and the tech had me lay down so we could all see the baby. This was the coolest part! We got to see the baby squirming around and kicking arms and legs. Then she said, "Ok, here we go. Those are boy parts!" And they definitely are! We are having a little son!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ke13K8ELgTo/TiHRSpKZ0dI/AAAAAAAAAC0/skr-WFFhDbA/s320/CIMG4749.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5630011127407170002" />

We were all very happy! I was kind of surprised because SO many people said he was going to be a girl, but thrilled to have a first-born son! Paul is very happy to have a little boy too. And Grandma and Granddad were very excited!

Then we got to keep watching him move around. He has very long legs and was kicking them and trying to put his toes in his mouth. We even got to see him opening and shutting his mouth. I'm pretty sure he was telling us all "Hi!"

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qY46m43dEc0/TiHSNQILODI/AAAAAAAAAC8/G0IdtkVJUXs/s320/CIMG4747.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5630012134299220018" />

Here's a nice profile shot of our little man!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DZDuyeXML1Q/TiHS7oX-8AI/AAAAAAAAADE/8fspUeYCuhs/s320/CIMG4748.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5630012931081957378" />

This is him laying on his belly! Paul and I picked out a layette set with matching bibs. And Grandma and Granddad had to buy him a blue piggy bank to start his college fund. We affectionately call him "Ramsey." Here's the belly and the pig. The belly isn't that noticeable in that shirt, but it's there and getting more noticeable (at least to me) every day!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RX4PhUeD6VQ/TiHU42xRJLI/AAAAAAAAADU/mViOh2ytfTk/s320/CIMG4744.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5630015082429752498" />

Oh, I almost forgot! Nothing really new or exciting to report.

We had our first ultrasound on May 6. We were able to meet our doctor and see Baby Carter for the first time. Baby Carter had a terrific heartbeat of 174 beats per minute. His/Her Aunt Nicole says that means it's a she. We'll see if she's right...

Baby Carter basically looked like a beautiful little blob when we saw his/her picture. Our doctor also gave us a new due date of December 17, 2011. That puts his/her due date right around my parents 30th wedding anniversary! I think that would be a special anniversary gift!

I started feeling nauseous/sick about a week after our doctor appointment. It got progressively worse, with last week (week 12) being the worst of it. I discovered that I could tolerate Cheerios most of the time, and also discovered that I don't like to brush my teeth. It makes me gag. And once I gag...well, you know.

We were also given an at home doppler that lets us listen to the baby's heartbeat whenever we want. We've been able to find it easily and it's pumping away at a healthy rate. But, the baby doesn't appear to enjoy it, because it will only last for a couple seconds and then moves away. I can't feel the movements yet, but the sound moves all around in one area. We think the baby just wants to be left alone. Or maybe he/she is shy!

There's no real development as far as a baby bump is concerned. I can feel my abdominal muscles tightening up and even though the scale says I've lost 10 pounds during the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy (totally normal), my pre-pregnancy jeans are too uncomfortable. Luckily, a friend donated a BUNCH of super cute maternity clothes and I'm loving wearing those. So comfy! They're a little big, but they're much more comfortable than my "regular" pants at this point. And after all, I deserve to be comfortable while I grow a person, right?

This is what I look like so far...
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WOgkC71pQ10/Tfb2Hlyxk0I/AAAAAAAAACk/las-Ttk5psc/s320/CIMG4420.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617948195455865666" />
Nothing to see here!

We are both so excited to be moving closer to meeting our little bundle of joy! Please continue to pray for us as we prepare for the biggest and most important job of our lives!JessChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12752777492655598462noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-792000568572227157.post-74273959120463311192011-04-12T19:56:00.000-07:002011-04-12T20:42:09.365-07:00Happy News!

We're having a baby!!!
